When I think of basil I usually think of my favorite basil, tomato, and mozzarella cheese combination. Now when I think of this dark leafy vegetable I am more aware of the affects it has for cancer prevention. AS you probably know, basil is super healthy for you because it has that dark green color to it, which usually means it is rich in nutrients. basil has been found exhibit antimicrobial, anti-inflam- matory, anti-diabetic, antioxidant and anti-cancer activity. Basil is more than just a garnish with a pungent scent and strong flavor. By now it is common knowledge that a diet high in fruits and vegetables contributes to a reduction in cancer risks. basil is also a good source of antioxi- dant vitamins A, C and E, all of which have been shown to inhibit cancer through similar mechanisms.
